Why has my BTS become so shy?

Postby DracoDussumieri » Tue Jun 27, 2023 8:37 am

Hello,

im in my second year with my eastern BTS and for two months he has become very inactive and stays in hides pretty much all the time.
Before his behaviour was always as followed. After brumation very active, roaming around alot for maybe 1 to 2 months. After that more chilled but pretty much active every day with the usual basking and roaming.
Now he pretty much does nothing, he stays in his hides (i have two around 1m long corktunnels). Sometimes he stays burrowed for a few days in the moister substrate, mostly before shedding which is normal i think.
He still eats well when i offer him food directly in front of the hide. I tired luring him out but he wont leave the hide. Last year he was chasing food (roaches) around.

Havnt changed much in his enclosure besides substrate exchange and little rearangments of the interior. I did turn off the heat lamps since temperatures went up to 84,2 fahrenheit. I try to keep the temperatures between 66,2 and 75,2 fahrenheit. Since its summer temperatures around 75,2 even without a heatlamp. I still run a LED daytimelamp of course.

I still feed him a mix off grainfree high quality dog food, several kinds of pumpkin, arugula, dubia roaches and occasional fruit (grabes, apple, bannana) and of course calcium + D3 and vitamins as supplements.

I dont rly know what to do. Should a change the interior of the enclosure more or should i leave it? Usually i changed it quite a bit every 2 to 3 months to keep him agitated or stimulized by the interior of the enclusre. Should i turn on the heatlamps and simply leave the enclosure open so it doeant get to warm? Should i change the died?

I still like him as apet but its kinda frustrating when you dont see your animal at all or just the head. I also cant rly check on him since i dont want to force him out of the hides (which is kinda impossible with the long tunnels anyway).

I add an enclosure picture.

Thanks in advance for any tips!
