General Urate Question

Postby FernandoBloom » Fri Feb 03, 2023 3:25 pm

Hello! I'm new here and have had my first northern BTS for about 3 weeks, and he's about 6 or 7 months old. We bought him from a very good pet store in California and he was produced by James Fenn.

I just wanted to ask if it was normal for a BTS to sometimes not excrete urate sometimes. So far our little guy has had great looking poops, but today he only excreted feces. I don't believe I missed the urate, because I was actually watching him at the time, and we keep him on a dark bedding. He's only just started eating consistently, and I believe he probably has had a smidge too many blueberries & hornworms. He's currently being fed on grain free dog food, and we're intermittently supplementing with calcium with D3 and vitamin supplements (but being careful not to over do it). His temps are great even though his humidity has been a constant battle to keep up (winter in Missouri has been dropping humidity to 15-20% inside right now). We also have a UVB bulb over his enclosure since it was recommended.

I may be asking a fairly basic question, but I just wanted to make sure that an isolated excretion without any urate wasn't a huge problem. I've seen urate consistently until today, and as a sidenote he's been very regular with eating and pooping the past week and a half or so.

I'd be happy to answer any other questions that anyone has! Thank you in advance for any help you can give me with this issue.
