Indonesian skink advice + how to make having a skink less exhausting.

Postby Amara_ed » Thu Sep 01, 2022 9:45 am

Hi , I have had Jinx my bts for a few months now . this is my first time having a skink as a pet , ive had small reptiles before but not many.
My skinks is an indonesian i think. shes either a merauke or halmehara. But whenever i mist her terrarium she doesnt seem to like it? i mean she only comes out when its nice and dry.
I am also worried shes a bit too fat , i feed her 2 meals a week with dog food + veggies + a bit of fruit and sometimes she gets an egg. i ran out of insects but im planning on buying new ones so shes not getting those atm.
she also has some trouble with her breathing , sometimes i catch her breathing with this wistling sound but shes done that since i got her (should i worry about that?)
Also she's very lazy or bored because she doesnt rlly move around in her terrarium much is there anything i can do to make it more interesting for her??

Now my main problem is i've kind of gotten stressed having her , i also have a lot of other pets and i love her so so much but sometimes i dont want to do the whole reptile thing anymore . i wont give her away but i think im gonna redo her whole terrarium and the way i take care of her. Do you guys also get tired of having reptiles sometimes? and do you have anything to re motivate you?

thanks if you reply <33

Having a pet should not be stressful, it should be the opposite. I know many who have suffered over collecting burnout but not the case here, as I am a breeder.
Indonesian skinks are rarely captive bred and the importation process is very stressful to them. Respiratory infections are common. Can you post a picture so we can identify and advise proper care? Indonesian skinks in general need higher humidity than their Aussie cousins, Halmaheras needing the highest. IMO, skinks are one of the easiest reptiles to own besides snakes. Once he's set up properly he should be no trouble at all, but as I suggest with any import a vet check is a good idea, especially with what you noticed with his breathing.

Thank you for your reply , i might get stressed because i have a lot of other pets as well. But i rlly find bts the most interesting little creatures i just have to find my passion for them again . I will add some pictures to this post of her and her terrarium. I do keep her humidity quite high since shes an indonesian so thats no issue :) , i will try to make an appointment to get her checked out as well .
