This is my first post and my very first blue tongue skink! His name is Spaghetti, he has been such a wonderful addition to our family! I bought this little guy as a juvenile, and he's definitely a meruake due to that cute little pink belly! I say "he" assuming, I haven't had him sexed or anything but we're all pretty sure he may be a boy! He's about 9-11 months old approximately! Before buying, I looked into this site and read through all the information, and this seems like such a wonderful community, who doesn't seem to mind new mom anxiety of a skink haha!
We've had this little guy for about 3 weeks now! I left him alone for a solid 2 weeks and waited till he wasn't running away from me when I entered the room, etc etc. He seems very happy in his enclosure, and little by little during our newly started handling and taming/bonding sessions, he's already getting a little less huffy and more I suppose tolerant to my presence
. However he does seem to have picked up a little quirk! Whenever he eats as of late, I put his food dish right outside his hide. Whenever he has a big meal (he tends to eat every 2-3 days) he curls up right beside his dish or even on top, and takes a little nap! I haven't heard of many skinks napping outside of their hide, so this MAY! Be a dumb question, but is this normal? He likes to circle the dish, curl right up and take a bit of a nap! Instead of going back in his hide. I've heard of skinks being out in the open lots may be a sign of stress, however he has about 3 hides in his tank plus plenty of "adventure" room, a basking rock plus cork on his hide that he loves basking on. He also hides most of the morning, and usually comes out mid afternoon till his lights go off! He has a great internal clock lol. I have him in a bioactive tank as well! He has plenty of room, and seems really well regulated other than the minor intial stress he's been experiencing with me interacting a little bit more each day haha! So I'm hoping maybe this is just normal, or maybe just a silly little quirk this boy has!
