Can you help me identify my Skink?

Postby justblueyjessie » Sun Jan 23, 2022 10:00 am

Hi there, I'm a first time skink owner and I want to be sure I'm giving my BTS the best care for his breed. I just picked up a lovely baby BTS from my local shop. When I called, they assured me that he was a northern, however after getting him home I'm having some doubts. I've attached pictures. I think he's an Indonesian of some sort. Not pictured is his black and white spotted belly.

I have a small humidifier I can add to the room and I misted his tank not too long ago.
Thank you all for your help and experience!

This is definitely NOT a Northern. It is either a Merauke or Halmahera. Can you get a picture from directly over top and the side? Either way your humidity needs to be up around 80% for these guys.

Just from some internet searches I was leaning Halmahera. Here's a pic of him form the top down. Hydrometer and humidifiers are going up today! Thank you for taking a look!

I added reptibark to increase humidity retention and removed most of the paper substrate that was previously in his enclosure. I misted his enclosure again with a fine water sprayer and set up my humidifier to keep him nice and moist. He also has a water dish to soak in if needed.

I would switch out the reptibark with cypress mulch if you want to keep wood chips. Fir bark molds easily at higher humidities while cypress doesn't
