Wont drink + diarrhea

Postby Micaela » Thu Dec 16, 2021 11:44 am

My skink has slowly gotten more and more runny poops. They smell straight awful, and today it was pretty much completely liquid. :(
As this is my first ever reptile, i didnt catch it at first and told myself it might just be the diet or it might just disappear on its own. After almost two months now its only gotten worse, finally told myself this cant be normal and took a feces sample to the vet. Its been two weeks and i still havent gotten the results from them...
Im getting progressively more worried and anxious, especially now since ive noticed he hasnt been drinking. Thinking i should bathe him for hydration, but he hates being in water and it only stresses him out.
Is there anything i can do from home while i wait for results? Would bathing be a good option even though he'll stress out + hate me afterwards?
I really hope this isnt something deadly.. have no idea what it could be except potential parasites maybe?

Two weeks for a fecal??? Where did you go? Did they have to send the fecal out to a lab or something. That is ridiculous. Your first step is call the vet back and let them know your skink is worse. Second, tell them they need to get the results asap. Third, my guess is your skink as parasites and needs meds. May need another vet visit. Are you going to a reptile specialist?

I did go to the nearest reptile specialist and was instructed to hand the test in at the lobby so that they could sent it to a lab. Never mentioned how long it would take though.. i feel like two weeks is too far of a stech, but once again im new to all of these things. Will denfenetively give them a call as soon as they open, i really hate seeing my skink like this. :(
Its about an hour drive to the reptile specialist so i havent brought him with me yet to avoid stressing him, maybe i should soon if the results arent arriving

HI again. I would definitely give this vet a call and see if they even sent the fecal out in the first place or verify what is going on. I would also let them know your skink is worse. I wouldn't try soaking or anything like that. You don't want to add more stress. The vet should be able to provide you with more help as far as fluids if needed and force feeding if needed. Not to mention medications to help the diarrhea and possible parasites.
