Breathing

We have an Indonesian BTS which we have just bought for my son. We have noticed he takes regular deep breaths when basking. Is this normal?

If it is only whilst basking I would bet that it is having a nap during its bask. Quite common for them to sleep with one or both eyes open. I would suspect an increase in breathing rate also helps them to circulate warm blood to the other parts of their body.

Alternatively as it is a new skink, it could also be a stress response as it is coming out to bask thus leaving itself exposed in an unfamiliar environment.

In either case sounds fairly normal.
