What breed of blue tongue is this?

Postby Interesting Lizards » Thu Aug 05, 2021 11:39 pm

Hi all,
We recently acquired a Blue Tongue off realities as they couldn't keep him anymore. I am new to this forum in search of answers to my questions.
I'm wondering what breed of Blue Tongue this is? I'm pretty sure he's a Northern, but not sure. His name is Wacky (I am a assuming Wacky's a he due to our information off relatives, but haven't been able to check properly yet, as he's mostly been hiding in his tunnel only coming out in the early mornings). As you can see in the picture the substrate of the reptile tank is shredded paper. Would pine shavings be okay instead? His diet mainly consists of formulated lizard food, the occasional mealworm and fresh vegetables. Thanks in advance. :)

When attaching images make sure that the status shows as a green checkmark, otherwise the image won't attach (there's a file size limit)

Also, please, never use pine or cedar with blue tongues. The wood emits oils which is where they get their scent that is toxic to them and leads to a lot of respiratory complications. Cypress or fir bark will be better (also fir can mold in high humidity requirements, but cypress does not). Coconut husks also makes an excellent substrate.
