not new to the game but seeing some odd behavior

Postby guyver315 » Fri May 21, 2021 8:08 am

hey im new to this forum and I thank any one with advice me and the wife bought a few months ago I mid size irian jaya male. lol we figured him to be a male after all the white globs he left around the tank. anyhow he seems happy with food choices bit on the picky side not a fan of greens goes crazy for crickets the one time we tried doesn't like super meal worms or live meal worms so i do a lot of dry fruit the kind u add water to with dried mealwom and cricket mix ill even mix in dog food chicken pate style once in a while we don't feed him every day we tried but learned that its a waste he spends most of his time underground in the substrate i have a coconut shaving mixed with peat moss and a fine dirt don't worry pet safe was bought in a pet store. when we bought him he was abought 15 inches id say he's a bit around 20 now the shop keep just got him in that day and didn't have much info on him but he seems nice enough that we can pick him up no issues in the beginning there was a lot of sighing everytime we woke him up to say hi or hey new food today but he seems to want to just hang out underground and does eat or drink much which is why i was doing the dry fruit and veg you add water to seemed to drink that more than his dish we even went thru some dish sizes thinkinking that was a issue he seems happy had a superworm i missed to throw out seeing how they expired and he showed no interest turn into a beetle and he does give chase but it gets away from him id figure he would eat it i mean they sell much bigger things for food and i read they eat beetles so I'm not worried what I'm concerned mostly about is his lack of noticing the food or water i wake him up seeing how most of the day is nappy time and we have it set up with a hot and cold side of the tank and i spray it down regularly i didnt know if I'm over feeding him he gets food once every 3 days due to the lack of interest i have tried all types of fresh fruits and veggies but no interest. in the past I've had lots of variety of lizards and snakes and yes eastern and northern blue tongues also but this is my first Indonesian one and maybe I'm over looking it but i needed a second opinion also he seems to sleep a lot tilted to the side underground which again is a first for me but if he's happy I'm happy I'm not gonna try to make him do anything lol other than that loves to be held and have free roam supervised visits outside the tank mostly just the livingroom lol Lunas a big mush at times. named him on the count of the shape he tends to lay in lol but all n all they are great pets. i know I'm rambling on but just wondering if its just me or him lol hope to hear back from yall have a great one

Have you had him checked for parasites? I think Irian Jayas are almost never captive bred.
