How to know if my blue tongue is going to shed?

Hey, so, Ryuu (my bts) has really flakey(?) skin on his belly when i hold him, does that mean he is going to shed soon? Just wondering

That could be an indicator that you need to bump up your humidity. Rough/raised scales on the stomach can also mean they are just generally dehydrated. I would suggest keeping humidity a little higher, providing a humid hide, and giving them a soak in treated lukewarm water to start. Also you could post a picture so some of the more experienced people can take a look?

Typical indications of shed are: dulling of colours, pale milky scales, and sometimes your skink can get cranky. Usually right before the shed the colours will return somewhat.

If your skink has shed before and normally has dry belly scales at this time then its probably nothing to worry about. I don't have any issues with it as long as you are providing sufficient humidity that matches the specific needs of your BTS. If the scales are persistently not smooth to run your thumb against and make a noise from the friction then you will need to either increase your humidity or look at using a different substrate which holds more moisture.
