Excessive tears

Postby Smar1903 » Tue Jun 09, 2020 5:41 pm

My northern Taffy has been crying a lot lately. Her right eye bulges out slightly and she has been producing a lot of tears. it than calms down and Then will start again later. I was thinking maybe respiratory as I got her from another person a month or two ago that did not care for her properly but now she is being properly cared for and it has all of a sudden popped up. If you have anything thoughts that would be great. :helpme: sorry if the pictures aren’t very good it’s not flairing up right now I’ll try to add more photos if it does again.
Note: she also had been making a clicking sound since I got her which is kind of strange. I don’t know if this has anything to do with it but I thought i would add

Although rare in northerns, could very well be the beginnings of an RI. A vet check is in order.

I would absolutely suggest a vet appointment. The eye could be anything from substrate in the eye, a scratched eye, infection, RI, etc. Also the noise possibly be the start of RI as well. Good luck and let us know what the vet says.

After reading some reply’s and increasing anxiety I decided to bring her in. I went to a different herp vet that I’ve heard great things about and they were wonderful. They agreed and it turns out she does have an infection that was induced by bad husbandry from her previous owner that hadn’t cleared up yet. To help I have to give her an injection of tazicef every three days for the next few weeks and she should start showing signs of improvement within the first few days. I’m not super happy that I have to give her injections as she’s been through enough pain already I don’t doubt but I really have faith that this is gonna work out and she’ll start knowing what it’s like to be a happy healthy skink! Even better this vet didn’t even get upset with me for feeding wet dog food so on another plus I now found my new primary vet haha.

I am glad you didn't wait and got her in. Eye issues can escalate quickly and if not treated quickly can even damage the eye permanently. The injections suck, but as long as she knows she is in better hands now hopefully they will go well. Reward her with a tasty treat after. That helps too. Having a knowledgeable vet can make the world of difference. Congratulations on finding a good one. Hopefully your skinks infection will clear up quickly and she will be back to normal in no time.
