Pooping

Do skinks always poop above ground? There's atleast energy substrate and moss for him to be able to cover himself completely throughout most of the tank and ive only seen him eat twice now. Pieces of cat food about the size of his head.

I understand they might not poop for a a while when you first get a new skink, but this is supposed to be correlated to them also not eating at first.



Soooooo, should I be looking for a poop somewhere in the substrate by now? Or should it be ontop? Or is it still too soon for me to worry about that? He never basks he just goes back to hiding from me. With humans it takes about 24 hours for a meal to go all the way through our tract. Im not really sure how long reptiles take.

How essential is the basking for digestion. Is it like helpful but not make or break?

Too early to worry. Once your skink starts eating more, it'll poop. Heat is important for digestion. As long as you offer it, your skink will use it when it sees fit. I wouldn't worry about it not basking yet. My biggest concern would be internal parasites, commonly found in imported skinks. If possible, a fecal exam performed by a vet would rule this out, that is when your skink does eventually poop. But the fact that your skink has fed twice now is a positive sign.
