Very difficult getting baby skink to eat

Vet said he was negative for parasites. She was mildly suspicious of a respiratory infection based on how his 'huffs' sound but I am personally doubtful because his xrays were clean and he showed no other symptoms. Regardless it was cheap, so best to cover all grounds. Most worrying thing was that she said that his stomach was very full in the xrays, but we didn't feed him yesterday or today at all. Bought some kind of 'gut prep' treatment from the vet that was a one-time use thing.
Either way, hopefully something fixes his appetite and it isn't a more serious issue.

I am curious what this gut prep is. I do hope you have no more issues and you can get your little one on the mend soon. Glad there wasn't parasites.

Uh oh... I have the Thrive Brand, I believe, for my 150 WATT UVA.

My vet said to switch everything to ZooMed and quoted studies on ZooMed and the ExoTerra versus other brands UVB.

I, too, am ordering a T5 because I've just got the double fixture right now and a ceramic heater in the middle.

I hope your baby can get rid of the food he currently has to make room for more!

Zoo Med T5 is working great. If you can buy them in store I would, Amazon completely shattered my bulb (thankfully the hood comes with a free one).

He's pooped twice since he last ate 2 days ago, thankfully once at the vet. Vet recommended warm baths 3-4 times a week so we'll keep up with that.

this https://www.petsmart.com/reptile/enviro ... gid=500110 is a Neodynium basking globe and produces zero UVB , so as well as not producing any UVB needed by the skink to photosynthesis dietary calcium and produce natural (GOOD) Vit D3, it only provides UVA and very poor spectrum of it.
It's rubbish.

Better off with either a MVB ( these are all-in-one globes = heat, nice light quality , UVA and UVB) or a T5 at least rated at 10% UVB ( emits UVA & UVB) + a domestic Par38 incandescent ( or halogen ) for heat and light.

Thrive is amongst a whole gaggle of nasty poor quality brands marketed by big box sellers and small online (often Ebay and Amazon) sellers who buy them and try to sell them as their default in house brand .

Zoo Med , Exo Terra and Arcadia Reptile are the only brands of UV sources you should buy, yes they are more expensive , but they are also in the main very good quality, with Arcadia being at the top wrt quality.

I've bought and had globes and tubes shipped from the USA and UK to me in Australia , and when packaged properly they arrive intact. I'd advise against buying your light globes and tubes via Amazon, ( they simply don't care if they arrive intact and wont go that extra yard to add a couple layers of bubble wrap or slip into an reinforced mailing tube or box ), go via Ebay and pay via PayPal , you have Paypal's and eBay's buying protections so if it's DOA or broken enroute, you get a full refund, they even pay for the return postage.
In the USA , try LLLReptile , they do online sales and carry all the good brands.
