A bit of gender identification assistance

Postby splashy07 » Sat Jul 27, 2019 7:44 am

Many times I am asked to identify gender. I seldom get it wrong if the lizard is at least one year old. It helps to have two to compare, but here are some pretty much fail safe clues. There is absolutely no guesswork here, this is a proven pair that has produced for four years. They are 8 yrs (female) and five years (male).
Male is the lighter one.
Note on male large broad head, thick tail base that does not taper immediately, and longer legs.
Note on female tiny back legs and quickly tapering carrot shaped tail.
Eye color has absolutely nothing to do with gender, as some say males have orange and females have brown....not true.
Just about every one of mine defy that rule. Easterns are even more obvious, when they feel like cooperating I will show.
