Hi, I created an account just to ask this question. I have almost a year old Northern Blue tongue and her name is Pandora. Today, I woke her up and she opened her mouth, no hissing and charged at me. Do skinks get cranky after being woken up? Should I be worried?
I don’t handle her as much as I should, I try to once a week and is normally pretty fine with me and eats out of my hand. A few minutes later I tried to pet her and she didn’t try to bite me. She’s never done this before.
Grumpy?

Re: Grumpy?
They'll get grumpy and do that from time to time. Nothing to be alarmed so long as it's not happening every time.

Re: Grumpy?
Maybe she was in a deep sleep and just instinctively went into fight or flight mode not knowing necessarily it was you that woke her up and reacting as though she was being attacked? Just a thought. I know the other day Ventress pretty much jumped out of his skin when I made him jump by mistake when he was asleep - he jumped and twizzled in midair!
If she was fine with you after it sounds like she just did it out of instinct to protect herself.

Mine get particularly grumpy if you wake them up, and if nearing a shed cycle. Are you sure that's a Northern? I see a missing toe there and that is usually indicative of low humidity which is quite common in Indonesian species.

Ha no splashy that's my old IJ, not the OP's Northern. Yes she's missing a few toes. I've had her since I was a kid back when I didn't know anything about humidity or even that she was Irian Jaya.

Hahah sorry thought I was looking at the OP's post. Getting too old to multi-task....maybe I should read these at home....
