Hi all
Q - can too much vitamin and calcium supplements cause a skink to have a wavy tail?
Reason I ask is one of Northern’s has quite a wavy tail on him. He’s always been fed either quality dog food mixed with veg or repashy diets with the odd mouse.
Food was/is always coated with calcium with d3 or repashy calcium plus.
Plus he was kept under quality UV whilst growing up.
I then purchased 3 more northerns and now keep them in a rack system with no UV and have no issues with them....
Makes me wonder if I over did it on supplements and UV light as I’d be shocked if it was under supplemented and mbd. Has puzzled me as kept a huge variety over the years and never seen this..

I have the exact same issue with mine. A Northern, kept under UVB, and given calcium + Vit D3 on every other serving of premium dog food. I took her to the vet about 3 months ago and the vet wasn't concerned/didn't think it was MBD.
It's almost as if she has two lumps on either side of her tail, which makes it appear wavy. Is this similar to what you're talking about?

Yeah sort of, but this one has quite a few kinks in the tail. I’ll try upload a picture tomorrow.
It’s always eaten so well and never not had quality supplements or food. I spoke to Joe Ball in oz and he said he’s had some like this, said it just happens sometimes. Doesn’t seem to hurt mine or bother him but bothers me when I think I haven’t looked after them correctly!

If you spoke to Joe Ball and he is not concerned, it's definitely not an issue.
