Food inquiry - Dog food

Postby MysticBlueTongues » Thu Aug 24, 2017 12:24 pm

Hi guys so i am kinda new to the form and the blue tongues in general. I was looking at a range of different things which i could feed my blue tongue as she get locusts, mealworms and then veg and a bit of fruit different time when i feed her. I am just wondering is anyone has used or if it can even be used to feed a blue tongue skink every so often as i give some to my dog and there is somethimes a bit left over. I am asking as i am not sure about some of the ingredients which are chicken liver, potato starch and also chicken broth :S (Not sure if the pictures will show but the foor is called wellbeing core)

The ingredients are chicken broth, chicken, potato starch, turkey, chicken liver, eggs, carrots, bell peppers.

I don't recommend any kind of dog food for skinks.
I know many skink keepers use some dog foods and even cat foods and claim success , (I suspect because it's very cheap and very convenient to use ) , but I prefer to offer similar proteins to what the skink would find in the wild in it's natural range ( this will not be highly processed dog or cat food , in the wild this will be live insects & eggs) and smaller animals they can catch or scavenge from) , I offer boiled lean chicken mince (occasionally).

I'd particularly avoid giving anything containing offal. Liver if I am not mistaken is very high in VitA and this may be OK for the woofer , but risky for a skink who could suffer Vitaminosis A if given more VitA than it can process.
