QUESTIONS ABOUT BTS

Postby Bluetongueskinkguy » Thu Jul 20, 2017 5:07 pm

Hi, I'm new to blue tongue skink keeping and I have done my research and have kept and am keeping other reptiles but I have some questions about BTS. First is about dog food, I know they can eat it but I can't find much if by products ok? By this I mean chicken, beef etc and how often can they eat dog food I feed him a variety of foods and wanted to try this but figured I should be sure about all of the rules and what I should know about it. Second question is about handling he is a Indonesian blue tongue and does let me hold him better than when I first got him but when I hold him sometimes he tries to get on my arm and if I don't let him he starts to make a squealing sound it's not a hiss but a squeal, does anyone else's do this? He doesn't have respiratory problems because he is kept on coco husk and repti bark and it is misted quite often. Thanks

I used to have an wild caught indo he was very flighty like yours. I find that talking to him and letting him be in an area I was in a lot ( my room) helped him. He was able to watch me and hear me talk to people and do my daily things. He was super shy of new people and would not come out if anyone strange was in the room.

Just let him have his space and get to know you. Tong feeding also helps them associate you with food.

As for dog food I usually rotated from a small ingredient canned food to cooked ground beef and other meats for verity. Avoid grains and fillers in the food. I'm from BC Canada and used Pet Kind and Weruva.

Good luck and feel free to let me know if you have any other questions!

How old is the BT ?

How big ( bodyweight in grams) ?

The diet needs to take into account what stage of life it is in and how rapidly it's growing.
