Skink Behavior Questions?
So my skink decides to burrow, not in the mounds he has, yet in the corners where there is little substrate. He claws at the edges of his cage as if he wants to get out or it is too small, but the cage is 30 by 12 (I know the minimum is 36x18 but he isn't fully grown and I plan to get a new one soon) and I take him out and let him explore numerous times. He also tries to squeeze in the very tiny spaces between the wall and the water dish so I have moved the water to the middle to make sure he doesn't get stuck. Are any of these problems? Can I solve any if they are problems?

Re: Skink Behavior Questions?
How often does he come out for floor exercise / free range and exploring fun time..... ?
I think he's bored out of his brain and is digging there to have something to do to occupy him ..... a bigger tank (4ftx2ft at least will help too) as well a lots of structure to explore in there.

Re: Skink Behavior Questions?
How long have you had him for? There are a couple of reasons they might scratch around at the end of the enclosure. One is that the temperature in the tank is not right for them - what temps are you getting at the warm and cool ends of the tank?

Re: Skink Behavior Questions?
I put a lot more substrate than what I had in and he has stopped scratching at the ends and now burrrows more in the center so I think that was the problem. The basking spot side is around 90 to 100 degrees and the cool side can get around 80 to 65 ish.
