First of all, I want to say a big thank you to everyone on the forum. Between the care sheet, food chart and reading all of the great advice posted I have learned so much and become a prepared and well equipped first time skink owner.
With that said, I just have to show off "The Professor", my Northern. I have only had him for about a month but I am so smitten! He seems to be warming up to me as well and getting less skittish each time he is out of his enclosure with me.

The Professor looks awesome - always deep in thought.
I'd switch off aspen if I were you to another substrate like coconut husk or something else. Aspen can be very dry and although Northerns don't *need* high humidity in the same way some of the other species do, they are not a species that needs dry conditions. Having a substrate that is more humidity friendly would see him do well.

I chose aspen because I live in Florida and don't keep the AC on in the reptile room, so the ambient humidity stays fairly high. However, I will be diligent about monitoring the humidity levels in his tank and if it goes low I will definitely switch substrates. Again, I appreciate your advice.
