Hello,
I am new to this forum and was hoping to get some information about my skink. The pictures I have attached should hopefully give some clues as to the species (I was told it was an Irian Jaya but I wanted to confirm):
I have since given him quite a bit bigger cage to live in than the one pictured but he has been ultimately recluse. I am wondering if maybe he feels too exposed with the large area. I have provided a hide on either side of the cage but perhaps I need to add additional structures or objects to make him feel more secure moving around. I have also considered "wrapping" the cage with paper or blankets around the sides to protect him a little more. (Assuming it's a male, no actual proof of this). I will provide better pictures of both the dude in question and his living quarters (his name is Locke by the way - his "companion" is a corn snake named Hobbes housed in another vivarium close by, though they don't interact as far as I know)
I've also had trouble getting him to eat anything but live snails. I always gut load the snails with nutritious veggies before bringing him out to eat; he will only come out from his cold hide when I remove him from it at which points he hunts around a little and will typically eat at least one of the 2-3 snails i provide him. This occurs once a week to every 10 days or so.
I'm hoping to get him back to a more regular diet that I can control more easily as I know it's risky feeding wild snails from my backyard. Just hoping for a little advice because I want to make sure this guy is getting the best, especially now that winter is coming back around and this is around the time he started becoming more and more secluded in his behavior.
Thank you for reading and I look forward to your feedback.

Re: BTS Identification and other questions
There are some indicators that make me question him being a pure Irian Jaya... Looks a bit like a possible Merauke x IJ cross to me.
He could definitely stand to put some weight on --I would consider taking him to a vet to have a fecal test to look for intestinal parasites.
Maybe try getting some wet cat food and offer that after not giving him any snails for a week or two.
