Housing more than 1 BTS

Postby BigBradLad » Mon Aug 15, 2016 7:41 pm

Hi guys & girls,

I'm new to this forum & have a couple of questions.

Im sorry if these questions have been asked before, or are in the wrong part of the forum.

My questions are -

If I buy more than 1 BTS from the same litter, will they be alright being housed together or will they fight?

Another question -

If I buy a male & a female BTS from the same litter, is it okay to breed them or is there some type of incest in the reptile world?

Sorry if they're stupid questions to ask, I've never owned a BTS before & my parents breed dogs, and they don't mate 2 siblings together, so just wondering if it's the same for BTS.

Thank you!

If they are from the same litter they are less likely to fight but unless it is housed in a big area 2 enclosures is the safest bet.
Like with all animals interbreeding is generally only a huge problem if it is several generations of it but it is not recommended to do so.

Hi!

On the housing issue, you might find these two earlier threads on the topic helpful.

Solitary keeping?
Housing two BTS together?

On the breeding question, I don't know, perhaps someone will post on that. Having been on the forum for a while (but still not a lot of experience with BTS  ) I think it's best if people keep blueys for a while to learn as much about them as you can before you start to think about breeding them. It's not as easy as chucking two together and ending up with babies!! We have even seen people want to breed a "pair" after having not kept blueys before and not having much knowledge and it turns out they have acquired blueys that aren't even the same subspecies! Now, that IS "interbreeding" and definitely frowned upon.
