According to Hallmark, the tradtional 14th anniversary gift is animals (it originally was ivory). We celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary in December and just had to mark the milestone by bringing home our third blue tongue earlier this week! S/he is an adult, seems to be in good health and has all of his/her toes. Just wanted to introduce you to Stormy :-)

Thanks Susann! We got our first Merauke quite awhile ago and have absolutely fallen in love with them. After lurking and learning on here for about a year, I think we are getting close to building a Merauke breeding group and begining the challenge of breeding these guys in Canada. We aren't there yet, but we are getting there :-)

I will definitely keep you updated! We know that Meatlug is a male (sperm plugs like crazy last Feb - March), we suspect that Sasha is a female and we have no idea what Stormy is. We have put Meatlug and Sasha together every week since mid November (with the hopes of confirming Sasha's sex through behaviour) with no interest from either of them until yesterday. There wasn't any breeding activity, but they were definitely more interested in each other than ever before!

Obviously, we won't be attempting anything with Stormy for quite awhile since s/he is new and currently in quarantine. The nice thing about Stormy is that about 8 months ago "her" previous owner contacted me for help with "her" care. This wasn't the type of pet they were accustomed too and really couldn't grasp temperatures and humidity needs. I spent months in close contact, walking them through his/her care needs and hoping that they would start to feel comfortable with Stormy. They followed through with every recommendation, but in the end decided that they just had no interest in keeping him/her and offered "her" to us. Without hesitation we started planning the 1.300km round trip to pick Stormy up and bring "her" home. I love that we know so much about "her" last 8 months and have really gotten to know the previous owners so well.

All 3 are very nice looking meraukes,meatlug and sasha looking in lovely condition to so im sure stormy will settle in quite well,with breeding it may be the females not quite ready yet,but if the males shown a touch more interest of late that could be a sign shes not to far off being ready,males can tell when they are ready or very close to it

Thanks for your words of encouragement, Susann and Richard, they mean more than you know! We aren't rushing into breeding, didn't feel quite ready in September and October, then thought we had likely missed the window for 2016 babies. It's great to know that a successful mating could still happen, we are ready now and even just a mating this year would be great.

We have bred crested geckos for a number of years and are really excited about live merauke births at some point in the future. Whether it's 2016, 2017, 2018 ... we are in this for the long haul and it will be fantastic!

Richard C!!! Look where Meatlug and Sasha made it to today! I took your advice and with their interest in each other changing I increased visitation. Now if only he could figure out how to finish :-). This is more than I hoped for this season. Thanks for the encouragement to keep trying!

Stormy had a beautiful shed yesterday and "his" scales are already looking healthier, more hydrated and smoother. I had Stormy out for the first time today and "he" snuggled right in. Yay, three weeks of no touching and he settled in just fine. We usually wait two weeks, but extended it because we could see a shed was coming
