Something wrong with my bluey

Postby Scoot » Wed Oct 07, 2015 7:57 pm

One of my blueys has a dent at the base of his tail as if it's sticking up more than it should be compared to the rest of his body. I've researched and found MBD and kyphosis and if it's either of these, does anyone know how to fix it???? :helpme:

Can you post a picture? MBD is most likely, and there isnt really any way of fixing it, just stopping it from getting worse though. Minor MBD usually isnt much to worry about as long as you correct the issues that caused it in the first place. Most skinks lead normal lives without any problems afterwards

Are you sure thats new? If so, MBD is a possibility. I have a couple here with that same issue but they were born with it. Are you supplementing his diet with Calcium and vitamin d3?

It's definitely new. It's like a visible lump on the base of his tail; definitely unusual.

We spray their food with a calcium spray but where do we find calcium and vitamin d3 supplements?

Wow that looks like a Tassie blotch!

MBD is rare in blotchies. In addition to the above advice which should be done anyway.

I am suspicious of the substrate -looks like compressed sawdust of rice hull kitty litter? That stuff can be lethal. If it is, I would stop using it and put the bluey straight onto clean paper.

Young blotchies are susceptible to intenstinal blockages and in some cases a minor blockage can look like a lump above the vent at the base of the tail. Cos they eat like pigs and tend to injest it. This stuff disperses in water can form a hard lump in the intestine. Unlike compressed paper substrate which tends to come out as an elongated slippery blob.

Let me know. This might give you something to work with. If it is, limit food, keep the bluey warm day night - this will help with the digestive system and encourage it to drink. A vet may be able to help, enema or some other intervention eg. oil. Outdoors time - crawling around, warm bath etc might help.

Just out of curiositt, does he climb at the glass or walls and bend his back awkwardly?

Another possability could be a lower back kink from doinv that,it often makes tail area look raised anx is often mistaken for mbd
