Farmed in Indonesian now means CB

I'm flabbergasted !!

I was told last night by a specialty reptile store owner that it's okay to label his reptile imports as "Captive Born" as they were "farmed" in their countries of origin and hence born in captivity

It it just me or is that total BS

A lot of babies that are imported are captive born from fresh WC mothers that are in the holding facility before they are exported.

Yep, and many are misled by this term thinking they have the real deal, must say CBB, captive born and bred for it to mean anything, but I'm sure this abbreviation will be abused as well.

Very true, and very sad. This hobby has had many advancements over the years, but the dark side of it will continue to be dark, and misleading in many ways for those just coming on board.

babies from wild caught mums arent farm bred,also farmers sell there offspring,they dint sell the breeder animals along with the offspring as well as send gravid animals with any type of farmed animal

its not rocket science,its terminology to try and tart up the fact that its all based on pilfering wild stock,and to try and hide the fact there actually all based on taking from the wild

I just saw an example of this at the Miami Repticon show. Two vendors had baby IJs for sale with one reading captive bred and the other with the label CBB. I didn't approach them/discuss this with them but was thinking the same to myself what a shame.

I've seen large obvious wild caughts being sold as cb also. Usually there is a BIG difference in quality between an imported "cb" baby and true cbb. Unfortunately new comers to the hobby may not have the eye to spot the differences and will buy some pretty rough looking health compromised animals.
