What Kind Of Skink? Found At Pet Store

I asked the guy that worked there and he said it was some form of Indonesian skink but he wasnt exactly sure. I think he is beautiful even though he is in shed. What do you guys think of him?

Technically yes, Irian Jaya (now called West Papua - http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Papua_(region) ) is the eastern most Provence of the country of Indonesia.

But this skink has much more in common with Australian species of blue tongues and is not officially considered a Tiliqua gigas - http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irian_Ja ... gued_Skink

Also, because they more easily bred than Indos and readily cross breed with Northerns many of them are captive bred and not wild caughts. I have an CCB Northern x IJ and she is one if the sweetest and most docile reptiles I've ever owned :)

Incorrect, they are Tiliqua gigas evanescens.

x2! On the forum, everyone disagreed that Irian Jayas should not belong to T. g. evanescens, and for some reason everyone has accepted it as fact.. rather than opinion. There was a review on the "Bluey Bible" saying it was not up-to-date because it said Irian Jayas were grouped into T. g. evanescens.. and they thought they were not to this day. But yes, there are technically T. g. evanescens contrary to popular belief. But note they only grouped them there until they have studied them more, to prove if they really deserve their own subspecies recognition.

:blah: But enough with the broken record debate, it is a very pretty IJ. Almost looks like it came from Ray Gurgui (I would seriously doubt it, though).
