Biting skink advice!

sorry for posting so many threads recently, but being a new skink owner i have a lot of questions! my skink has been with me for about a week and a half now and seems to have chilled out considerably- he was pretty jumpy and shy at first but is now quite the explorer! however, he seems to love to go around biting things.. i let him out once a day in my (skink proofed) room and he has recently started going for my feet and legs while i'm sitting on the floor with him and biting my cabinets and rug! he also walks quite fast as though with a purpose and i've only ever seen him walk that fast when he's going after live food.. he's quite calm and still while i'm holding him and petting him, but is ready to pounce whenever he's free to roam around.. is this anything to worry about? or is this just normal skink exploring and settling in behaviour?

sounds like a normal little curious skink. sometimes reptiles explore things with their mouths, kinda like how sharks give exploratory bites, to investigate things since they don't have actual hands. He sounds like hes got quite a quirky and fun personality!

well that's good! it does mean a bit of dodging on my part but he seems perfectly okay with me handling him! he's very curious and hilarious to watch, but it does mean that anywhere i leave him has to be completely skink proofed! he'll get into anything i leave lying around! thank you for the reassurance, i was worried i might have been doing something that was making him aggressive..

Don't forget, young skinks are very curious and clumsy with their mouth. Mine used to mildly bite when he was really young. Although, he'd only bite when I was hand feeding him and there were times where he thought my fingers were food. I just let him have his way. He soon realized they weren't food and stopped biting them. Even now, he'll rarely get carried away when I feed him a raspberry by hand. He might chomp once or twice then stop.

If it doesn't hurt when it bites, I'd let them continue. They will realize soon enough our skin is not for their consumption.

ooo er! i've seen him bite his food bowl and my cabinet before and he certainly packs a punch! i'm not certain i'd withstand a bite to the foot or leg unless he holds back! he doesn't tend to go for my hands and seems calm on my arm when i'm handling him.. it's almost like he doesn't associate the rest of my body with my hands!
