Substrates for dry areas?

Hello everyone. I am pretty new to skink care and am hoping to get a northern soon but I am a little concerned about what substrate I should use. I live in a very windy and dry part of Canada and have always had trouble keeping humidity up. I know aspen chips are the most recomended for northerns but does anyone know of a good alternative that's still great for keeping up humidity or maybe some other way I could keep it up?

If it is really dry, you can get a humidifier and have it go off once or twice a day. Also if you are able too just spraying the cage down frequently will help a lot.

You can try Cypress mulch or Coconut chips.

You can also put in a humid hide - mine is a 18x12 Tupperware container with a layer of gravel and a layer of sphagnum moss, in inch or so of water and an entrance home big enough for my bluey to crawl in.

Thanks guys! That humid hide is a great idea :D I'll have to see if there are any good deals on misters and cypress or coconut chips.

Thanks Dakota :P I drew it myself since I don't have my own bts yet lol it felt silly taking some random persons picture and using it
