Outdoor sunning enclosure ideas?
Just chasing a few ideas for something to give my little bluey a few hours of sun. I have no lawn, just a small paved courtyard, was thinking along the lines of a modified guinea pig hutch or a collapsible cat enclosure with some artifical turf on the base. Wondering what everyone else uses as sunning enclosures?

Re: Outdoor sunning enclosure ideas?
A lot of people use stock tanks for outdoor enclosures:
http://www.wildlifewarriors.org.au/wild ... _news.html
http://whitinglab.com/?page_id=261
You can use kids swimming pools:
http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/ju ... ure.38121/
You can also build one using nylon window screen, wood, sheeting etc. or buy premade aluminum or screen ones. You need to make sure they can thermoregulate and have areas in the shade that they can retreat to if they get too hot.

Re: Outdoor sunning enclosure ideas?
I think the kiddie pool may be too low to safety house a bluey? I wouldn't feel comfortable housing my guys outside in anything lower than a foot and a half I think....
That being said, other options that come to mind are plastic rubber maids,
- dog pens
http://thumbs3.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/ ... Ry6ZTg.jpg
- 4 planks of wood, some nails and an hour
I think if you could find a pool tall enough that would be the cheapest, easiest choice. Those tanks that Saisaac posted are also very cool.

I use a 36 x 36 x 12 wire cage that use to house a rat. I removed the ramp and middle shelf and placed it on its side with a blanket and a hide.

Re: Outdoor sunning enclosure ideas?
The screen cages like what exo terra sell might be another good option with benefit of portability, just becareful with what ever on a paved or concrete surface as on even a mild day the surface can get extremely hot, enough to cook a reptile

That will do, but please be cautious of it getting blown over by strong wind and of course dogs and cats.

I have this from when I used to have pet rats...I think I'll test it out this summer.
I would only use it when I'm around though, playing with the dogs or working in the garden.

I love your setup! I'll probably build something similar to this once I get my skink. I certainly have the yard space for it!

Try going to a local feed store and buying a rubber stock tank. Or you can buy one online http://www.statelinetack.com/item/high- ... SLT312097/

Do you have much violence given the number of animals in that space? It is certainly large enough, but Northerns are known to be real jerks to one another
During the early spring if I put my two on the ground in a 10x10 room they wanted to rush at one another.

With my established group, i never see this type of viciousness. However, if i try to introduce another bluey, it's a 50-50 shot at being accepted or attacked.
