I get what you mean..... You are spot on aswell.... I was only considering this morning placing a sticky on my FB page in capitals NOT FOR SALE OVERSEAS as I get 50+ requests every week to ship OS..... & 99% of them are from USA.... A typical request is 'can you sell me Hyper Blueys ?' My response generically is where are you located ?? Then the reply is something like 'I am from Mass' which I then workout is Massachusetts ??..... It gets repetitive..... The demand for these critters in the US must be huge....

Joe, there are a few of the hypers here in the States already, and they have been reproduced. They haven’t been offered for sale publicly yet though. What most people over here don’t understand is that when they are available, they will be offered in the $10,000 range.

It seems funny to me that so many people want these animals so bad, but obviously don’t know anything about them if they don’t even know that you can’t ship ANY animals out of Australia.

Out of curiosity, how do they breed for you in general? My understanding is that both the hypers and the albinos are more difficult to breed than the normals. I’m asking because if they do breed easily, it seems like they would come down in value pretty quickly as the supply would grow fast.

Thanks for the questions..... The Hypers & Albinos are both recessive traits as you know and by nature any recessive projects will be compromised to a certain degree as good and bad recessive traits are all displayed which can make breeding projects a little harder. Having said that the Hypers breed quite readily when compared to the albinos but do seem to be a little challenged when compared to normal wild type Easterns with a few still born babies & slugs in the females first 1 or 2 litters but do become quite prolific consistent breeders with a persistence and good husbandry.....

Albino males tend to struggle with the physical demands of mating which literally means they struggle to pin the female and lose interest quite quickly..... This is why the price still remains high and numbers are quite low..... I have dome some out breeding which shows signs of rectifying some of the vigour issues by crossing with 1.A strong pure Eastern line 2.The stronger Northern intermedia subspecies whilst also enhancing the colour 3. Finally Hypers as per this thread which also hopefully will increase vigour whilst creating double genetic mutation animals..... Most albinos are currently produced from Het x Het pairings which in turn only produces 66% possible hets and basically adds further challenges to number production..... Hopefully that will be changed in the next couple of seasons.
