I fear my skink's tail is damaged.

Postby Pascal Paradis » Wed Nov 27, 2013 5:08 pm

When i put him back in his cage, the tip of his tail got stuck in air vents hole at the base of the vivarium, a stupid accident. I was able to free it in time. I was panicked at the moment as I imagined it being torn apart. I was sure it was going to happen but it didn't yet I am not relieved. This incident will undermine my relationship with him and yet it was not an easy one. What could be the possible dmg? Can he recover from it? What would be the appropriate course of actions to take? but above all, could you say someting that would comfort me, please?

Unless you see a break in the tail, a new crook or their is bleeding then I would not be to excited about the accident. You are showing compassion for your pet. Hopefully it is not serious. Your pet will not hold you in contempt. Please let us know how this turns out.

Best wishes

It doesn't sound like you damaged his tail. Some treats will probably make him forget all about it :)

Don't fret, you'd see damage if it was there, as they have a segmented structure to the tail and although they don't "drop" tails, they "pull" apart if there is significant trauma. Sounds like a silly oops which could have been worse, but thankfully, this time, has had no adverse effects.

It turned out his/her tail is intact. Yes that was a really ridiculous accident. I would not have forgiven myself if her/his tail had broken. Thank you for your time and care.
