Axanthic Blue Tongue skink value?

Postby ladyluckk » Sun Nov 10, 2013 7:08 pm

At a local store there is a younger(half the sized of a full grown adult) Axanthic Blue Tongue.

I have never seen one of these in real life as it was nearly all black other than some grey stripes down its back and top of head.
They are asking $220 and just have it described as a "Blue Tongue Skink".

Are these rare in the USA? If so how much do they generally go for?

I like the skink and would want to get it, but $220 seems to be a bit high unless its rarity warrants the price.

Thanks

For what people are selling axanthics for now, $220 is a pretty good price. Do you have a picture of it? It may just be a grayish-colored animal or an animal in shed.
Edit: Currently, real axanthics sell for $500+ in the States

Where you are located???

Axanthics are around $1,000, unless you get lucky and get them from a seller that has no clue what they are, or just realize they are not worth $1,000.

Are you sure it is just not a BTS in shed? Please post a picture.

A picture would be good. Many skinks that are being sold as "axanthics" are actually skinks in shed.
$220 would be a very good price.
I have never seen an axanthic sell for under $400. Most nowadays sell for about $600-$1000. They are not rare, but they are extremely uncommon.

Be careful when you see prices that low. I've seen many skinks for sale that are mislabeled. This could very well be a case of mislabeling because the seller doesn't know what they have or they are using the morph terms incorrectly. If it is properly labeled it would be a great price though, so keep us updated.

I will try an get some pictures tomorrow or next day, I will say that he or she has been this color for 2 months.. And just continues to get bigger. So I am sure it is not shed, also his color is very deep and shiny.

This is a local area that not many people collect blue tongues so it does not surprise me hes been sitting there a while. Also he is labeled as just a blue tongue skink.

He looks exactly like this
However he is much bigger than this skink, when we saw him 2 months ago he was a tiny bit bigger than that, now he is much bigger. Good eater I guess..

It is not labeled as an Axanthic. Just as "Blue tongue skink".

I took a look at him and handled him, I believe he was missing 1 toe but I noticed nothing else about him that screamed "wild caught".
When we first saw him 2 months ago he was very small to.. So if he were WC, then he had been shipped here in a hurry.

Of course I am no expert to these so I will get some pictures tomorrow and post about it here before I grab them.

That picture isn't really going to help. A picture of the exact animal would be necessary.
I only know two people that have bred Indonesians, and only one has bred axanthics and they didn't breed this year. Very few people breed them.
I would bet my left leg that that skink is WC.

I would GIVE my left leg (now remember, I'm left handed) for an Axanthic.

$200 is pretty normal for a skink in a pet store. The importers sell em to the store for like $75, and the store sells em for much more.

At a local chain store here they were selling a nasty-tempered WC juvenile Indonesian BTS for almost $900!!! I seriously couldn't believe my eyes. Totally nuts.

Anyways, the black/white Indos are imported for the same price as the classic colours, so it's only because people are now obsessed with morphs that some people sell them for so much. They used to be sold for the same price as classics, just like the one you're seeing.

IMO, it's a good price (not crazily marked up like you usually see them now). If you're interested in another skink go for it, and post tons of photos to drive Dakota nuts with jealousy.

I've never seen one at a pet-shop.. I would probably end up taking it home, too.. I don't want to see any BTS at pet-shops in my opinion.. or at least chain pet-stores.

I've only been to 1 reptile expo, and there were 4 BTS.. came home with one of them...

It seems that the value of these in the US is catching up with that in Europe. Here, they fetch 1000 euros each, i.e. 1,350 in US$.

Жильё на Новорижском шоссе

Postby RobertFENO » Sun Dec 28, 2014 4:00 am
