Hello all, meet Cahaya!

Postby SpiritScale » Wed Sep 18, 2013 6:19 am

Hi all,

I am a new mum to (I think) a Merauke BTS who's 2-3 years old and is a rehome, christened Cahaya (Indonesian meaning 'light'). I don't know the sex but little one needs some TLC but is in good shape considering. Still working on getting them on a good diet (was eating cat food, fruit and eggs most of the time -_-), losing some weight and getting used to people (Cahaya tends to pee).
Currently in a 3x2 enclosure with UVB and an infared heat lamp (will be fine tuning lamps, heat type and etc in two weeks with my next pay). Basking is 95-100F and the cool side is sitting at 72F (need to fix the heating in the reptile room---its usually at 80F year round). Humidity is at 60%.
Diet-wise all eggs and cat food were thrown out ASAP. No more. No more daily feedings.
Currently doing 3/4 tablespoons of dried crickets (working on switching over to silkworms, hornworms, earthworms and snails) and 1 1/4 tablespoons of veggies (greens, squash etc) twice a week.
Not eating much of it yet (minus the crickets) but we're getting there.

On paper towel currently because of stuck shed almost costing him/her a toe and wanting to keep it clean (constricted and the shed was cutting off blood---removed the shed but the toe is hurt).

Gorgeous!!!
Welcome and congrats on the rehome.

There is nothing wrong with dried crickets, but as she (I keep going back and forth on whether Cahaya looks like a boy or a girl ...I tend to lean towards "she"...) is used to cat food, you may want to keep using either that or dog food to mix into the veggies to get her used to them. I actually use dog food as a staple for protein, lots of us do. Egg is actually not bad for them either, but you are doing very well with introducing veggies and greens to her.

Cahaya looks to be in great condition actually, so I wouldn't be overly concerned if she doesn't eat much to begin with.

And be sure to support the back legs when you pick up and hold her; unsupported back half of the body is almost a guaranteed pee-inducer. :)

Great looking Merauke. Certainly in much better condition than most of the ones i have seen for sale. The last thing I need is more males but have bought a couple out of pity because of their physical condition/living conditions. Do you mind if i ask what province you are in?
