I am not sure I would recommend building your own for a first time tank. Like you mentioned it is time consuming, but more than that there are other factors to consider when building your own enclosure and unless you are really knowledgeable in materials, design and construction, it can get overwhelming when you are just beginning in BTS. Not to mention if you are new to BTS you are learning all their requirements as well - so having the unpredictability of building your own enclosure for the first time and also owning your skink for the first time are two things I would think you probably would not want to mix. I wish you the best Spencerb though whichever you try
Yeah if I get a second skink I would maybe try but I don't want to build it wrong for my first skink
