so by the looks of everybody's pictures, are everyone's water dishes fairly big??? how big should it be compared to the skink???

It may differ based on the species but I use a dish that is big enough for them to lay in if they want to (I have 2 Irian Jayas).

ok so i have a baby Merauke and adult Indonesian (19 inches long). i read the discriptions of them, but i dont know if they like to lay in water?

Personally i believe it cant hurt and is generally a good idea to have one they could soak in

I typically use moderately shallow rectangular cake dishes, since they are long enough to soak in. Cheap and easy. Not what my final dishes are going to be, but great temp ones.

The glass dishes (Used for cakes, also) can be staple water source, can't it? Definitely no Aesthetic look in the slightest.

small porcelain/ceramic cat or dog bowls are good. They are relatively heavy, flat bottomed (stable) and have relatively high sides to hold a decent amount of water. Besides- they are easy to clean. Many fake rock type bowls end up filthy and unhygienic.

I use the 9 X 13 glass baking dishes for my Meraukes. They hold a decent amount of water, are big enough for skinks to soak in, and are heavy enough that they won't tip over as the skinks slide in and out of them.

I also use big, shallow glass baking dishes. The skinks occasionally like to lay in the water to soak, especially during a shed or the warmest parts of the day. I also love that they're nearly impossible to tip, and super easy to clean. There are a few species that shouldn't have big water dishes (shingles, centralians?) but otherwise it's a good plan to offer a dish big enough for them to soak in when they want to.

@Dakota: Yes, they can be staple water dishes. I just think they are not as appealing as other types of dishes, and when all my custom cages are done, I'll be finding something new to use for water dishes. The clear ones arent too bad

OP, I get most of mine at Good Will / Thrift shops
