How did breeding go this year?

Just curious how breeding went this year. If you were a breeder did everything go as planned? Or if your just an enthusiast, trying to breed for the first time, how did it go? What were you breeding etc. The more info the better.

I have never bred reptiles, but I am fascinated by it. Post your stories here, so some of us newbies can learn a thing or 2.

A pair of Northerns, but shes not gaining weight so???? And I am currently pairing a pair (lol) of Kenyan sand boas. This is my first time breeding anything.

My girl (Irian Jaya) isn't gaining any weight yet either and I haven't noticed any change in her eating habits but I still have my fingers crossed.

I had four pairs breed this year, all of different types (northern, caramel northern, irian jaya and silver tanimbar). Breeding went surprisingly well given that none of the breeders actually brumated. No idea if it took though. I'm really, really hoping the tanimbar goes this year, it would make my year. Now the waiting game.

That sounds very cool. Why didn't they go into brumation this year? I wouldn't mind seeing some baby silver Taninbars. Whats the chance that a BTS gets pregnant 50/50?

I didn't bother brumating them because I didn't care if they bred this year. My two main breeder-ladies are getting the year off (ironically they're the only two who brumated themselves ). Basically I was planning to just relax this year, and then try again in 2014. I still paired some up, just in case they were in the mood, and to my surprise they went to town. Some of my best breeding behaviour yet (even the normally murderous girls wanted babies this year I guess).

I would love to see some silver tanny babies. If the caramels or silvers pop, it will be a first for Canada. Tannies are my favourite skink, and I was so sad last year when no babies appeared. It would truly make my year to get tanny babies.

I have no idea what the chance is. If conditions are right and you pair them at the right time, chances are probably pretty high that you'll get babies. But only the skinks know exactly if the conditions were spot on. You can do the exact same thing year after year, and some years it will work and some it wont.

Bred two pairs of Northerns. I never count my babies 'til they appear, but so far things are looking good!

You never actually know how breeding went until about 4 months after they mate, so can only comment on what copulated.

This year I had 8 female northerns copulate, including 2 first timers. I also bred 3 male northerns for the first time this year. Two female easterns copulated well, and I have seen a couple "decent", not great copulations from my shinglebacks. I feel that I was able to almost positively sex my blotched, so that was a positive too. I am still hoping for some more/better copulations from the rugosa, but other than that everything appears to have gone well. Tomorrow is a weigh day, so I will see if anyone is gaining weight.

ive had 2 kimberley northern litters plus another of slugs from a first timer,plus 3 blotch litters so far,,still waiting on a couple of blotchies,a wa western and maybe a centralian,though im losing confidence in the latter and a rugosa aspera i recently aquired,not bred by me obviously,the other 2 asperas i bred ,1 i think dropped slugs,the other didnt become gravid

Maybe some candlelight and some Marvin Gaye, will help the Rugosas

In all seriousness though, I would love to be able to get a shingleback in the future (without moving to AU, or spending an arm and a leg), so I am routing for them to have LOTS of babies every year. Also your looking forward to seeing more easterns with temporal streaks

On another note, that might be a fun experiment to see what effect (if any) music has on skinks. I have seen the studies about dogs, humans, even crystalline water mollecules.
