Tiliqua s. chimaerea is really difficult to tame ?

Hi !

I ask you if Tiliqua S. chimaerea are really difficult to tame ? Because i have an opportunity to buy one young couple born in 2012 and i'm afraid they are fearful and they bite.

They are beautiful but i'd like keep nice animals... So what you advise me ?

ive never had the pleasure of keeping them,but all species have the potential to be nice friendly animals,just in the same way usually tame species can throw out ones that are anything but,lol

its kind of a lottery i guess,starting with little ones is a good start,as apposed to wildcaught adults,but in saying that even some wildcaught ones can become very friendly

alot of it has to do with how you go towards earning there trust to

tannies have a badish rep tameness wise,but arent worked with alot like say northerns,there beautiful blueys,and theres no reason why they cant become friendly in captivity if thats what you want

personally a little fiestyness is something i like,i dont overly handle mine though,watch tv with them ect,more just check them out then put them back in there enclosure

I think it depends? Is it wild-caught or captive bred? Has it been handled regularly throughout life? What are you looking for in a skink?

I wouldn't say tannies are aggressive, but they're definitely shy, skittish, defensive skinks. Even my tamest tanny will pee all over me regularly. My least tame tanny (WC) completely panics at the sight of me, will bite, and often flings poop when he's scared (so all the time). Yes, the occasional one will be super friendly, but most prefer to be left in peace. I love my tannies, they're amazingly special to me, but I try to provide low-stress lives for them because that seems to be what they prefer. Most of them are still friendly towards me, and handleable (with a towel for the pee/poop), and curious, they just don't really appreciate being bugged lots and will defend themselves without compunction.

If you can get a CBB one, and you'll appreciate their attitudes and the challenge of befriending one, then great. If you want a skink you can bug constantly, or take out and show off, leave tannies out of it.

Hi,

i also have 2 of them, the female is easy to handle but the male is a little bit touchy. ^^
But it's not dangerous handeling them, even if he hisses like hell, if you don't let them scare you, you will be able to handle them

But they also get pretty fast tame, mine are just not right now, because i had to gave them a lot of medicines.

Yes they are pretty beautiful

They both are really differnet, he is outside in the sun all day and she just comes out in the morning and hides pretty quickly again.
I hope she will be more outside in the future ^^ atm she is pretty shy..

And today i'm gone incur his hatred again... i need to remove the last sheds >.<
That is not really easy alone, because i need to hold his head while removing the sheds...
