Noam

Postby Lahb999 » Sun Feb 10, 2013 6:04 pm

:D Noam has recently pooped after a time in the tub
He still ceases to eat,
I have gotten some energy in him by having him lick up baby food
But why won't he bite his chicken  or any other solids

Any advice on what this could be from
He is healthy otherwise he is running around and such,

Like mentioned in another thread, not eating at this time of year is very normal. Most blueys are sensing the cold, coming out of brumation and probably more interested in looking for a mate than eating.

Glad he pooped, that means there is nothing to worry about. Don't bother trying to entice him with baby food - it's not healthy and he doesn't need to eat. I'd just offer healthy meals once or twice a week and don't worry if they aren't eaten. Weight him and monitor his weight weekly - if he isn't losing lots of weight and he looks healthy, then just wait it out. He'll eat eventually but he doesn't NEED to eat anytime soon. They can go for long periods of time without food, it's perfectly safe.

To above posts

Have u tried warming up his cage a bit, moving it to a warmer area, even if u keep them warm,or what u believe is warm, they can pick up the coolness outside and go into reserve energy mode, still be active ect but not interested in food,i bet when it warms up it will start eating like theres no tommorrow again

For others reading this thread,on top of the not eating over winter even if still active with access to warmth is another common non eating issue, males that have brumated, ahut down, stayed active but not been interested in food is the issue of males in breeding mode, they start getting very active, paxing the enclosure, some even get a bit snappy, this is also a common time for tjem to not show interest in eating, which prolongs the normal winter cycle of not being interested

Dont stress, its very normal, just keep an eye on there weight,as long as they arent dropping weight fast theres nothing to worry about

Also if breeding is on your mind, even in the fiture a great thing to do,and what they do in nature is build up fat reserves long before shutting down,as in nature some dont eat again for many months, females particularilly need lots of condition, having the extra burden of having babies plus the short recovery period before the following shut down period
