I usually use the dome lights found at home depot but I have cats so i'm scared of them tipping. for now, i have them clipped to a metal light stand but I can't clip multiple lights to it as its' not big enough. I'm also finding that my enclosure this winter is very dry making my skinks scales very dry.
How do you guys feel about hoods? The one i was looking at is the zoo med deluxe sliding hood. it's secure and could probably help with humidity (keeping heat in more)

the only problem is I don't know what size to buy or if it's worth it. I like the control of the domes to get good basking light, but they aren't without their negatives either.. I just need lighting that is safe to have with cats around and a way to secure them and keeps the right heating (basking/warm and cool spots) and keeps the humidity at an acceptable level. I've had my skink for 4 years but I'm finding this is an issue i can't find a good solution for.
My enclosure is 36 x 18 (and 12" tall). The hoods are in varying sizes but the large ones for my size enclosure have 3 spot bulb places! it seems excessive and could be too hot...but maybe there's a good way to use them (varying bulb wattage or something)
Any help on this would be appreciated. My friends don't have lizards so I don't have people to get advice / tips from!
