Long-distance Brumation

Postby Jeff » Thu Nov 22, 2012 7:36 am

Well, it's getting to that time of year when many of the BTS living abroad in the northern hemisphere start taking their long winter naps. Due to some major construction that should be beginning very soon at my house, I won't have any place to keep my shinglebacks at the appropriate temperatures.

Fortunately, I live only a few miles from jasjmm27, who was willing to take the homeless skinks in for the winter. It is sad to not have them here, but I am grateful that I will still be able to cool them so that they will hopefully be ready to make lots of babies next summer. Here are some pictures from a couple days ago when I dropped them off. Thanks Jason!

Welp I'm sure glad I'm moving back to AZ in a year. Hopefully I'll be lucky enough to get some babies one day!

Hopefully your major construction includes the new reptile room.

If I ever come to AZ, I'm coming to visit you. I promise when I leave, you will still have all your shingles. I just want to play with one....

Poor little aliens, away from home, in a northern country

I'm sure Jason will do a fine job of looking after them, just be sure to do an accurate before and after head count and account for any mysterious disappearances. You have such a lovely brood, even someone with their own clutch of shinglebacks would be sorely tempted to swipe a couple of yours while your back is turned!

I'll keep all my fingers and toes crossed for you, Jeff. Goodness knows we could use a few more rugosa here in the States!

That group looks adorable in their little box. Such sweet-faced reptiles.

Cheers,

David
