Hi! I'm new! With a new adopted Skink!

Postby Willow » Sun Nov 11, 2012 5:40 pm

Hi,

I'm new here and just got my first blue tongue skink! I grew up with a bearded dragon and have always loved reptiles. I met a blue tongue skink at a pet store a few months ago and completely fell in love, however I couldn't afford the $300.00 price tag on him. Since then I have been researching them (done a lot of research on this site, thanks guys! lol) and planned to get a CB baby in the spring summer. However, after seeing one offered on craigslist who REALLY needed a new home I couldn't resist and decided to take her home with me...

According to the person I got her from she's a 6 year old female Australian Northern. Her name is Belinda! She's missing all of her toes, but is beautiful and sweet and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE her!

Anyway, I want to retroactively thank you all for the information you unknowingly provided me, and introduce Belinda! :)

Very pretty. However Belinda is actually an Iran Jaya. Congrats on the new addition.

Welcome to the forum! It's true, Belinda is not an Australian northern, but rather an Indonesian IJ. Very nice looking IJ though! Congratulations!

Thanks so much for the welcome and info! I'm very happy with my new Iran Jaya then! :) I look forward to posting more updates once she settles in!

As a nervous new mother I have a question: her stomach area is a little pinkish - is this dye from the bark substrate she's been on rubbing off on her, or just some of her coloring, or something I should worry about?

Thanks!

It is normal for some skinks to have that pink/red tint on their bellies, especially the Indonesian species. It will vary in intensity depending on where she is in the shed cycle. Nothing to worry about at all!

Thanks so much for all the welcomes! Belinda and I are both thrilled to "meet" you all! :) Belinda had her first meal in my house today, dog food and some peas and carrots :) She chowed down, which hopefully means she's feeling comfortable here! :)
