Today they had a mix of locally picked, fresh chopped peaches, bok choy cabbage, peppers, bolied turkey and home grown mint.
It looked good on the plate, so I thought I'd take a few pictures.

Oh, courgette, too! i love the local produce markets at this time of year and the mint has gone a bit bonkers in my garden. The turkey is local, too, but I'll not go there ...

Believe me, I salivate when I make their food. I'm lucky to get a good variety very close by, so I'm never short of meal ideas. Apart from the meats, I juice most of what's left over so nothing gets wasted.

Shinglebacks eating their food, never fails to make me smile, though!

That bolied turkey you mention, is it an Ab Fab recipe from Patsy and Eddie?

It grows wild in the bush, along with basil and a few other herbaceous plants, the shinglebacks eat them. I don't know about the Easterns, since I've only really seen the native mint growing prolifically and eaten in the more arid locales, but others may have witnessed them eating it. I have seen westerns in similar locales, but again, have not seen them eating it, but I'm pretty sure they would, when food is scarce.

Mint is low in oxalic acid, but high in minerals, such as potassium, a medium calcium and magnesium and has a healthy range of vitamins, too. I use it in low quantities on most meals, just to boost their vitamin intake. Basil and mint both have excellent vitamin k content, which is important for vascular health, haematologically and for bone development. Both have good vitamin A content, too.

But it's mainly as a supplement for my lizards, much the way you might use a powdered vitamin. You can see from the bok choy, the greens aren't always as green and reliably vitamin or mineral rich, so it's my way of making up for little shortfalls in a more natural way.

We have a fruiting locad tree hanging over the shed so thought id try some with the lizards,stumpies and land mullets went bonkers,lol,westerns and king skinks liked it to,what was funny was kingskinks ate the flesh but left the skin,they can be funny lije that
