Breeding my blue tongue? Need advice.

Postby Jacqueline » Sun Jun 24, 2012 10:06 pm

I've had my BTS since I was seven years old, and she's going on 12 years old now. She's always been the sweetest girl, and has honesty had a very good life with me. She's been fed well, taken care of properly, gone many places with me and met many different people. She's so ridiculously laid back, and she even comes to her name. After much reading, I've been attempting to find a man for her for a while now. Is she, at this point, too old to breed? I have the proper set up and everything that I would need, and not only that, but homes in line for babies. I just can't seem to find any information about the proper ages to breed them, or maybe I'm just skipping over it somehow. If anyone could give me some advice on this, I would very much appreciate it!

Here's a picture of my girl, for those who would like to see it;

I can't really help out too much since I don't really know much about breeding, but I just have to say that is a lovely girl you got there! Beautiful colouring.

By gum, that's an Eastern! I just thought it was an unusually good-lookin Northern!
How common are they in the US?
Jacqueline, did you know you had an Eastern?

I would assume you would still be able to breed her, as said above. Are you positive you have a feemale though ;)?

You might want to take a look at this section in the care sheet if you havent already :thumbs:

What a gorgeous skink. I would never have thought that was an EAstern. You would have no problem finding good homes for those babies! If you find a mate please post pictures of him too!!!

Pretty uncommon. Only Ray sells them.

I'm very sorry for replying to this so late! I honestly did not know exactly what type my girl was exactly, and assumed she was a Northern simply by looks. I was told by a BTS friend of mine that she also looked like an Eastern, or could even be a mix. I was only seven when my brother bought her for me, so I didn't think to ask any questions about her origin. I could maybe contact the man who had owned her...but after twelve years I kind of doubt they'd remember. Worth a try! Anyway...after having her for so long, and carefully paying attention to her behavior and waste, I can say that I'm almost 100% certain she's a lady. I have watched her use the restroom and have never seen a single sign of manly bits, nor sperm balls. I have more pictures I will post up of my girl. She was purchased down in Alabama, and I currently live in Tennessee.

I'm drooling over that skink! If I was looking for a mate for it, I would check with Ray Gurgui first; http://thunderbayherps.com/. Ignore the fact that some of the info on his website is old, the contact info is still good. It is best to call between 7:00 - 11:00 EST rather than email. He is a bit retarded and doesn't know how to type. :P There is a good chance that he produced your skink too. It is unlikely that you will find an adult eastern available, but Ray definitely produces more baby easterns than anyone else in the U.S. each year. Good luck!
