It's not only the stores that don't know what type of tiliqua they are, often times private owners don't know what type of skink they have either, it's a very common ignorance.

I thought IJ's are just Tiliqua sp? They are gigas?

I know, its sad, anyone that breeds or sells them should know exactly what they are. My personal opinion anyway

Aren't IJ's kind of an "unknown" species of skink that has no official scientific name? I think i read it somewhere on the main site.

Technically they are tiliqua gigas evanescens. But they share the characteristics of both gigas and scincoides, so we call them Tiliqua sp.

Its not just pet stores that dont know what species they are,alot of keepers dont either as its a frequently asked question,a bluey is a bluey to most people

Whats worse is when they are called one type when clearly they arent,that happens alot,even in australia,lol

I personally do not know how to tell the difference too well yet but if the law changes in Tasmania I would definitely learn. But for now all i can possibly see are blotchies after blotchies obviously lol
