Eggs?

Postby crm2000 » Sun Sep 16, 2012 9:43 am

Ok I got a three month old bts  and was wondering what age would be good age to feed him eggs with the shells he has already eaten boiled eggs (chopped up dont worry) and I had heard egg shells were healthy for them but wasnt sure if I should give him the shell while he is so young so I didnt. Thanks! :urgent:

Egg shells are fine at any age, but I would probably grind them up to powder and sprinkle it on other food rather that giving a whole egg. Small eggs that they can get their mouth around are fine, but a huge chicken egg is kinda big for a BTS to deal with whole. It won't hurt them though, so it might be fun to offer one to see what happens.

as Jeff says.

a good note for using the eggshell as a cheap extra nutrients:
as not all countries and not all chicken egg farms have the same restrictions, to avoid bacteria and the like.....i actually bake the eggshell in the oven to dry it and kill a little bacteria. it is easier to make it into a powder after that too n__n
most eggs are super well washed and checked, but when you buy "eco" or get from nearby farms theyre less.....clean....(but the eggs are tastier, i never tried the shell on either so i wouldnt know XD)

i try to save the eggshell as often as possible after baking and making omelets~ before this it just ended up in the garden eco dump or the thrashbin XD

Agreed, I feel like it'd be quite the challenge for a baby to attempt to break an egg and that's a LOT of egg lol, I agree that seems a bit much for them. I use a coffee grinder for egg shells to add as calcium w/out d-3 for my lizards. :]
