I could sort of maybe understand not using a top if the tank was so big as to be inescapable. But the skinks are getting out, and you're aware of it. Why not get lids? One of your skinks could easily end up somewhere a lot more dangerous than in a different tank.

t9dragon wrote:Okay... Why don't you guys who think it wrong to house your skinks together give me a break? I have talked to several people about this and they all said to keep them well feed and in a large enclosure and you shouldn't have any issues, but that isn't to say there won't be problems. I am sure skinks live together in the wild.

Not one of us said not to keep them together(Though I do not advise it). We are all wondering how the skinks are getting out.

Babies can actually be more aggressive than adults to,easily maim and kill each other
Some do fine together, some dont, but some seem to do fine then oneday even after being together for years suddenly turn and kill or harm a cage mate
You need to do something with your cage,if it can go to other cage it could easily keep going out of that one to

As for giving you a break ... no one is having a go at you, but you have already recognised that this is not a recommended practise, so, what did you expect? Of course we will want to warn and advise someone who is so obviously doing something that may be of detriment to their skinks! So, no, I guess giving you a break is out of the question. The least you could do is get them a larger space so they have more territory between them, or secure lids on each tank to stop them getting out!![]()
Aside from that, you do have some beautiful, gorgeous and absolutely stunning skinks! I know everyone will be thinking the same- but the "safety first" issue will probably distract them from saying so ...![]()

bella3 wrote:I am just curious how they end up in the same tank...? Like ML said, is there a branch or something they could be using to get out? I don't think people are really giving you a hard time about keeping them together, as stated before, it's just mostly why are the skinks escaping, and how, so that we can help you prevent that from happening again.
