A couple of questions

Postby bella3 » Thu Aug 30, 2012 4:30 pm

Hi everyone,
I have come up with a few more quesitons :)
Juno makes a lot of noises. She squeaks a lot...is this normal? I know that it's okay to occasionaly squeak but she does it quite a bit.
Another thing is sometimes after she eats a lot she closes her eyes and does kind of a wiggle. It looks like she is just trying to get her food down...does that seem normal? It's like she squints and moves her body around, but she only does it a couple times after eating a lot.
And finally a picture :D
Thanks everyone!

Mostly they squeak when they are having a bit of a panic or feel unsafe. Is it happening when you try to hold her or are disturbing the environment in some way? This is normal and unless it's mucousy, wheezy or snotty, tiny squeaky noises are ok. Not all of them do it, some are more huffy, some hissy, but a few have a tiny squeak! Am I right in thinking it's a tiny little noise? It's adorable, but bear in mind, squeaking is usually brought on by distress, so the less squeakiness you hear, the better.

As for the gulping wriggly "I think I ate too much" expression- yup, that's normal, too and just that they ate too much! They don't have big tummies and some skinks will literally keep eating until there's none left, they don't seem to have an off button! I think we've all seen it at some stage and usually it's on the last mouthful before they decide they've had enough! :tasty: she looks great in her pictures, so have aloof at your portion sizes if you are concerned she's just stuffing too much in. You might find you are feeding too much, most of us do!

The wiggle is similar to a snake - pushing the food down. I can't say about the squeak, only one of mine does and only when he's really upset with me holding him.

Thank you both very much. LeaBilby, she squeaks often when she is exploring around. Sometimes I find she does it when she is stressed, but sometimes even when she is in her tank and moving around she does it. It sort of sounds like a mouse squeaking, you are right, it is a small little noise. As for the food, I'll check the portion sizes, she may be eating a tad too much :D

It could just be that the pieces of food are large so its harder to get down. Mine does that when he has a large piece, but usually everything is cut up tiny for him

That could be it, although all of her food is in very small peices, and if it's not it doesn't need to be cut up (dog food etc) Thank you :D

The squeek could also be from excitement? Im not sure about anyone elses skinks, but when mine sees me coming towards his tank he makes his way to the side of the tank while squeeking, waiting for me to pick him up. He waits for me to put my hand down to him and he climbs right onto my hand on his own. That is obviously a happy squeek in my case, so maybe yours is just enjoying itself? lol :)

That's sort of what I'm starting to think. When she is exploring and seems happy she sqeaks a lot. So maybe she's excited, or maybe she is just a noisy skink because that itsn't the only weird sound she makes...what a weirdo   Thanks everyone!
