UPDATE ON BLOTCHED BABIES

It has been difficult keeping the 2nd litter healthy. 7 were born and 2 died within minutes after birth. Another died a couple weeks later. Now, 2 of the babies from the 2nd litter suffered prolapses. The little one had it for about 4 days before it went back inside on it's own. The second animal prolapsed just an hour before I was leaving for the airport for a 2 week vacation. My daughter was in charge of caring for my animals and she kept it moist hoping it would also go back in. This prolapse did not after 5 days and she took it to a vet who put it back in though said the prolapsed tissue was only in fair shape and he is not sure if this tissue was in good enough shape to regenerate. He basically said we would just have to wait and see how it does. The prolapses may have been caused when I tried giving these 2 a couple of wax worms and maybe they could not digest them properly.

Here's a couple of pictures to show size comparisons between one of the babies from litter #1 and the very smallest from litter #2 as well as one of the larger babies from litter #2.

sheesh,huge size diff kim,im at a loss to baby issues,they normally just soldier on,even runts,prolapses are odd to,fingers xrossed they come good at catch up to there gigantor same year class blotchies,you have a very attractive line there,the colors awsome for there young age

kim can u remember how many days after wake up the males shed and how many days post shed till they mated on average,i brought a pr in to experiment,the male shed at 21 days the female after 20 days,female came in a day earlier

The males shed about 20 to 23 days after warmup. Typically males will mate immediately after shedding, sometimes even the same day.

ok,my male went 21 days to shed,female pipped him by a day,that was a while ago,interesting,thanks kim,hes just starting to check female out now

That size difference is astonishing! Makes me think of Estrella, my little eastern. She was a runt and had a lot of health issues, but stubbornly fought her whole life. She never grew much in length and her top weight was around 200g! For an adult eastern, she was tiny.

The prolapses sound a challenge for them, too - I really want them to do well, but I can't help knowing how painful they can be in people. I hope things are improving, it must be very tough for you at the moment. Please keep us updated, I'd like to know how they get on.
