T8 Lighting Fixtures?

Postby chkadii » Sun Jul 01, 2012 10:26 am

While I have experience with pre-built tanks and lights (dome fixtures), I'm new to building my own. I recently acquired an Evolution Reptile tank (PVC), and I'm trying to put in a basking light and a 36" Reptisun 5.0 UVB. The bulb is a T8 and I'm not sure where to get a fixture for it to mount to the top of the tank. I tried Home Depot and the salesperson that helped me had NO idea of what I was looking for, and I ended up spending a lot of money on a fixture that's inappropriate for my bulb. I even brought the bulb in to show them what I was looking for. Oh well, you live and learn.

Does anyone have suggestions for a good mounting fixture? I live in Philadelphia (US) if that helps, but I figured I'd probably end up getting something online. Thank you!

I'm at work right now (Lowes) and will look to see what we have. Most likely you will have to wire a pigtail to it as most 3ft fixtures are direct wire. How many Watts is the bulb?

I believe it's a 30W. For some more background, I originally tried an under-cabinet type of fluorescent fixture, and the bulb was too long for it, as well as too big in diameter. Definitely not T8 compatible :(

Thank you for your help!

Thank you for your help!

It appears that my Lowes store does not have any 3ft fluorescent fixtures. Plenty of 2ft and 4ft.

Edit: Even though I did not see it on the shelf, It appears that Lowes does stock this fixture.

As I suspected, you will need to wire a pig tail to plug it in as it is supposed to be direct wire.
