Skeeter's Second Shed!

Postby skeetersmom » Fri Jun 08, 2012 6:56 pm

Two months ago, he shed, now he is at is again :) I noticed him nibbling on his toes...guess that is why I never noticed any collection of dead skin there. Nice that he does that.

I was going over the section on the caresheet on shedding - nothing about how often they shed. Skeeter is 7, so rapid growth is not a factor here - does how often they shed reflect on their health?

What should I "expect" the frequency of sheds to be? Oh, now he is pulling his dead skin of the parts of his body he can reach (have never seen him bend that much) and eating it.

Not concerned about him doing this - but only you folks can understand my amazement watching him :)

how often they shed, while growing, is determined by hereditary factors as well as the food intake and its nutrients. you know the feeling when eating too much and you could use clothes a size larger......skeeters got the problem solved :D

i think i read here that a very ill skink that rapidly gets better may shed oddly and often too :/ not sure.

anyway xD an adult skink sheds every 6 - 8 weeks or so. every 2 months is regular :D

its great to hear someone else seeing them eat the shed, especially the very fresh toebiting part...that looks a bit scary to me even if they are gentle...
my point being, yes i understand your amazement XD

THANK YOU! Someone does understand

Actually, I went to pick up a good section of shed that he didn't eat - and he ran over, snatched it, and gulped it down. "It's my skin and you can't have it!"
